The Plot Thickens

The Sun reports that Umno Youth have decided not to take any action on Mukhriz’s letter.

UPDATE ON 20.03.2008 @ 12.50 am : Bernama/Yahoo News Malaysia reports that Former Malaysian Finance Minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is “ready to lead UMNO”. This will be attempt no. 3 to helm UMNO but as Ku Li faced 2 different opponents in his bids to be UMNO President, no analogies can be made to the legendary Ali-Frazier trilogy of fights.

Just for the record:

  • Ku Li 1 was in 1987 when he challenged Tun Mahatir for UMNO’s Presidency but failed in his bid after only garnering 718 votes against Tun Mahatir’s 781 votes;
  • Ku Li 2 in 2004 was against Dato’ Seri Abdullah Badawi but he failed to garner sufficient nominations to make any meaningful challenge;
  • Ku Li 3 will be in 2008 against Dato’ Seri Abdullah Badawi and your guess is as good as mine.

UPDATE ON 23.03.2008 @ 9.30 pm : Bernama/Yahoo News Malaysia reports that Johor Baharu UMNO division “unanimously” rejected Ku Li’s call for UMNO to have an extraordinary general assembly as “it was unnecessary at this point”.

What makes the JB UMNO division’s decision interesting is that it is helmed by Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad – formerly a Deputy Finance Minister under Tengku Razaleigh and part of the “Team B” spearheaded by Tengku Razaleigh when he chose to go head on with Tun Mahatir in Ku Li 1.

UPDATE ON 25.03.2008 @ 1.24 am : Eighty UMNO branch leaders in the Muar division have called on its leaders to hold an EGM for the division to call on Dato’ Seri Abdullah Badawi to step down.
