Floral Baths

Yes, I know. I have been remiss in my blogging “duties” and can only apologize for my absence. It has been a combination of things – work, family, more work, rinse and repeat. Let’s not get into the work bit but allow me to expand a little about the family bit.
To sum up the more colorful events, there was a birthday – my youngest celebrated her first birthday – and not too long after that there was a medical emergency within the immediate family. On the plus side of things enabled me to ride in an ambulance for the very first time. On the other, I had the unfortunate experience of having a flat tyre AND a flat battery on the same night that we were driving back from the hospital and which made me think VERY SERIOUSLY that it was high time to get someone to do a mandi bunga (lit. floral bath) for my car.
Anyway, thank heavens for the PLUS staff who appeared and solved all issues with the car quicker than you could say mandi … well, okay, it was a little longer than that. Just a week after that fateful trip, I had to take a trip overseas (read Singapore) to visit an extended family member who was in poor health and it seemed sensible to pay a visit.
Long story short, transmission will be back to normal after this weekend. But allow me to leave everyone with this poser – why is it Singapore seems able to organize itself but the reverse seems true for Malaysia? For example, urban planning appears more sensibly implemented in Singapore e.g. sufficient spacing between buildings, ample green areas and complementary services located conveniently within a residential neighbourhood. Even parking seems better thought out as opposed to the haphazard, last minute lets-just-put-some-car-park-for-the-heck-of-it thinking that seems to prevail for developments in Malaysia.
That said, I do not believe that Singapore is a better place to live in. Just that it does seem like those shortcomings are an affront to our national dignity. We can do better.
