On The Issues
Given the nature of a blog, there may be previous posts which may contradict with a position adopted in a more current post with respect to a particular issue. For that reason, it seemed sensible to create a section which sets out my current thinking on recurrent and topical issues.
This is not so much as an attempt to live down my intellectual past. Rather, it is an acknowledgment that as I continue to read and ponder on such issues, my thinking on the same may evolve accordingly.
Freedom of Conscience & Conviction/Freedom of Religion
I unequivocally accept that there is freedom of conscience and conviction for Muslims. That said, there may be conditions permissible to be imposed upon a “Muslim” who wishes to apostatize. Taken even at its extreme limits, those conditions cannot amount to a prohibition of an exercise of this right.
My thinking on this matter is guided by Chapter 10/Sura Yunus verse 99-100 and a post which reflects this can be found here.
Discrimination and the Right to Equality
Everyone is equal before the law. Nevertheless, culture, language and religion are values which should be cherished in equal measure especially when such values do not transcend the boundaries of the community in question. A post which reflects this can be found here.
